The town is famous for its annual Westfest, a celebration of Czech culture featuring live music, traditional food, and dance performances. However, West gained national attention in 2013 when a devastating explosion occurred at the West Fertilizer Company, resulting in 15 deaths and widespread destruction. Despite this tragedy, the resilient community of West has come together to rebuild and continue honoring its rich cultural heritage.
